Bye-bye Raimi & McGuire: A re-boot for the Spiderman movie franchise!

For some, the Spiderman movie franchise (movie 1 till 3) wasn't just strong enough to command a cult following to echo the success of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight franchise. I kinda like the Raimi-McGuire collaboration, though I wish the same could be said about the annoying Kirsten Dunst...LOL! To me, the 3 movies Raimi gave us portrayed Spidey as how we came to know him in his comic form. I guess Marvel Studios wants to make do without the comic/colourful ambience and do a "Nolan" themselves.

Excerpts from marvelousnews.com official announcement page:
"Columbia Pictures has decided to wash its hands of director Sam Raimi and Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and start over with a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.

The new untitled Spider-Man film will center on the webslinging teen as he grapples with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises."

Although a new director is yet to be named for the new Spidey movie, rumours have it that John Malkovich is going to be roped in as one of the anchor cast. Surely not Pete Parker!!! I'm guessing J. Jonah Jameson. Let's see how my instinct serves me in the next coming months. Everybody's pretty anxious to see who Marvel Studio is planning to replace Tobey McGuire with. In the end, while I'm sad to see the casts being replaced (the actor who played JJ Jameson was excellent to say the least!!!!), I kinda look forward to the lineup of actors/actresses and to see whether the reboot is gonna revive the ailing franchise.

Make mine Marvel, Spidey!

dont know why they want to redone the great movies while they should focusing on the new movies.

I heard John M will be the main villain on the new spidey

I don't know man... a reboot already speaks for itself, the studio wasn't confident enough to continue with the success of the first three films. Its a real blow to be honest.

Well, in all fairness, Superman's had his face changes in the past right?

I guess the one that really wouldn't be acceptable to a lot of people is if Iron Man's character actor is changed in 5 years time.

I'm pretty baffled by this one...
Didn't the Raimi Maguire trilogy bring in enough money for the studios to keep them on board for another film?
You have to wonder their paychecks played a huge part in the studios new direction.
Oh- and you're right about the venerably fugly Kirsten Dunst. Good riddance. Mary Jane Watson was supposed to have been a red hot future model, not some plain jane girl that looks no better than my local grocery store clerk.
