Marvel has just announced the new (anticipated) release date for their upcoming live-action Thor movie. Playing the lead protagonist is Australian Chris Hemsworth, who in my opinion, does look the part albeit a younger version of the god of thunder. Another Hugh Jackman in the making? We'll see. Many had anticipated a certain Mr Pitt to get the lead role, given his recent scruffy and mature image. I guess Marvel Studio eventually decided to portray a much younger looking Thor in the big screen.
I've never really digged Thor's solo adventures per se. The idea of an Asgardian god running around earth hunting down his evil step-brother Loki....occasionally accompanied by his fellow Asgardians (eg. the comical Volstagg, female goddess (?) Sif etc.) didn't really click my interest...but the prospect of him to eventually join the rest of the big name casts of Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) and Edward Norton (Hulk) in a live-action Avengers movie in 2012 is too hard not to geek about! One thing that I do look forward to is how Marvel is going to reproduce the 'godly' realm of Asgard onto the big screen...hopefully it won't be overly done. I'm pretty sure most fans wouldn't want the movie to look like a cross between real-life acting and cut-scenes from a video game! *shucks*...
On the 1/6 action figure front, remember that Hot Toys have the rights to produce virtually any Marvel characters since they are licensed to do so. Thor's 1/6 figure is a no brainer candidate to be produced IMHO! Let's just hope they stick to the comic book designs of his costume, either the classic one or the modern version works well with me. It'll be a drag if Thor wears a completely different/unfamiliar outfit in the upcoming movie!
