New 'Wheels' in da house!

I've recently acquired two new Hot Wheels vehicle over the past couple of days. It was quite a hunt to say the least....I had to ransack through a couple retailer' shelves before I finally found the white Ferrari (left) nicely hidden somewhere at the lower pegs (though my wife instantly spotted the red Camaro (right) upon glancing through the HW aisle...God bless her!). Right, let me just reiterate again that traditionally I am NOT a Hot Wheels collector by nature, but the 'geeky' significance of these two vehicles made me wanna have 'em for my feeble HW collection. What's so special about these two you may ask? Read on......

Ferrari 458 Italia aka WHEELJACK

Rumours have it that this particular Ferrari is Hot Wheel's tribute to Wheeljack (Transformers)! Just look at the colour scheme......although it represents the colours of the Italian flag, it is suspiciously a throwback to Transformers fans. Somebody at HW must be a fan I reckon! And since I had a hard time tracking this car down.....so I guess most collectors are already aware of the rumour. This particular version is a 'variant' as I was told by a fellow HW collector buddy of mine (hence, the difficulty to track down) as the 'regular' version is black/red in colour (I might be wrong here, so do correct me if you know any information that I don't!).

1985 Chevrolet Camaro Troc-Z aka THUNDERHAWK

Next up is the 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z car. Now, thanks to my friend Darth Sob who had dilligently pointed out the significance of this car, I can proudly say that I have the HW vehicle in which Thunderhawk (from the M.A.S.K. fame!) was based on! Cool car from a very cool 80 cartoon series! I'm just curious to see if there are gonna be anyone crazy enough AND who'd have the time to custom this Camaro with Thunderhawk's decals/colour scheme. Hmm, come to think of it, Hot Wheels could even release a whole bunch of vehicles based on all of the M.A.S.K. vehicles. Now that would be super sweet!!!

I still have one more HW vehicle to hunt down though. It's gonna be a tough one. This 'particular' model that I'm targeting next is reportedly in the same wave as 'Thunderhawk' above....and since neither my wife or I found any, we're gonna assume that them 'SCAL-PORS' have beaten everyone else to it. Talking about scalpers, I recently found a blogspot maintained by a local Malaysian blogger who specialises on Hot Wheels collecting. I shall not name the blog page but suffice to say that I was shocked to see this particular samaritan buying multiples (and when I say multiples.......I mean 4 or 5 or sometimes 6 of EACH!). He even confessed that he oftens make a point to visit 4 or 5 shopping malls per day to swipe all of the 'hard to find' HW vehicles for his collection....*shucks*......question is, does he really need 4 to 5 of each vehicle for his collection? I highly doubt so. The issue of 'scalpers vs. glutton collectors' still remains hazy and is best left to be debated.
